Red Sox Lose Challenge On Game-Ending Double Play Vs. Astros (Video)

The Boston Red Sox had the makings of a ninth-inning rally Saturday night, but they ultimately fell short, losing to the Houston Astros 3-2.

Brock Holt and Mookie Betts were on first and second, respectively, with one out, but Dustin Pedroia couldn’t deliver and grounded into a game-ending double play. The throw to first was extremely close, though, so Red Sox manager John Farrell challenged the call just in case.

“Once I saw the replay, I felt confident they couldn’t overturn that,” Astros closer Chad Qualls told MLB.com.

Indeed, the replay showed that Pedroia was out at first, so the call stood. Still, in cases like this, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
