andrew millerThe Boston Red Sox have completed another deadline deal.

Left-handed reliever Andrew Miller has been traded to the Baltimore Orioles for left-handed pitching prospect Eduardo Rodriguez, the team announced Thursday afternoon.

Miller had been the Red Sox’s most consistent bullpen arm outside of Koji Uehara, andĀ hisĀ 2.34 ERA and 0.898 WHIP both are on pace for career bests. The 6-foot-7 southpaw has held opponents scoreless in 40 of his 50 appearances this season and hitless in 31.

In Rodriquez, the Red Sox receive a 21-year-old starting pitcher whom Baseball America rated as the No. 3 prospect in the Orioles’ system entering the season. The Venezuela native, who competed in the 2013 MLB Futures Game, has posted a 3-7 record with a 4.79 ERA in 19 starts thus far in his first full season at Double-A.

The trade wasĀ the third of the day for the Red Sox, who also sent Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes to Oakland for Yoenis Cespedes and John Lackey to St. Louis for Allen Craig and Joe Kelly.
