LeBron James personally asked NBA commissioner Adam Silver to extend the length of the All-Star break.
Apparently, Silver took to heart what James, among other NBA players, had to say.
The NBA is now considering extending its annual All-Star break from four to seven days long, according to a report from the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
The league is currently using the seven-day break as its “model” while filling out the 2014-15 NBA schedule, according to South Florida Sun Sentinel sources. The NBA, however, can revert back to its four-day break at any time before the schedule is released.
Silver said he met personally with James during the 2014 All-Star weekend in New Orleans to discuss the possible change.
“One of the issues LeBron raised is a break during All-Star (Weekend),” Silver said in a radio interview with ESPN. “(For) a guy like LeBron, All-Star Weekend is not a break for him in any way. He’s going around the clock with a combination of things the league is asking him to do, personal commitments, and I think it makes sense if we can work in the schedule a few days so the All-Stars can get a break as well.”
One change that would occur, if the break is extended, is the addition of at least one more back-to-back night for NBA teams, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
The NBA is set to release it’s 2014-15 schedule in August.
