Left-handed starting pitcher Tommy Milone reportedly wants out of Oakland.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, citing major league sources, the southpaw has “asked the club to trade him.” The A’s demoted Milone to Triple-A Sacramento after the team acquired Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Chicago Cubs earlier in the month, leaving him without a spot in the starting rotation.
The demotion marked the third time in the past 12 months that Milone has been sent to Sacramento, and it appears frustration is finally setting in for the 27-year-old. Milone has performed well this season, going 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA in his past 11 starts prior to being sent down for his latest stint in the minors.
On the season, Milone  is 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 16 starts with 61 strikeouts in 96 1/3 innings.
Those numbers are certainly strong enough to pique the interest of teams around the league hoping to bolster their pitching depth before the trade deadline, and Rosenthal reports the A’s have received calls regarding Milone. But Rosenthal says the team isn’t interested in moving the lefty,”knowing he might be needed due to injury or ineffectiveness,” sources told him.
Milone is eligible for arbitration after this season, and he is under team control until 2017.
