Chuck Knoblauch is in trouble again.
The former major league second baseman was arrested Wednesday night in Houston after allegedly assaulting his wife, Cheri, according to multiple reports. Knoblauch was charged with assault on a family member and interfering with police duties, KTRK-TV reported, then was released after he posted $10,000 bail.
Knoblauch was arrested and convicted of hitting his ex-wife, Stacey Stelmach, in 2010, one year after charges in another case involving the two were dismissed. Knoblauch also is due in court later this month to face an interference with public duties charge after he allegedly pushed a police officer in March, KROI-FM reported.
According to the police report, officers came to Knoblauch’s Memorial Villages home at approximately 4 a.m. and found the ex-player apparently intoxicated. Knoblauch’s wife, who once appeared on the reality TV show “Baseball Wives,” said her husband was upset she was asleep in her kid’s room, then grabbed her arm, smashed her head into a wall and threw a humidifier at her before she left the room.
Knoblauch’s wife suffered injuries to her arm, the left side of her face and on her forehead, police said. Knoblauch’s sister, who was at the home, helped Cheri Knoblauch call police, according to KTRK-TV.
Knoblauch was supposed to be inducted into the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame in August. The team announced Thursday, however, that the ceremony has been canceled.
“In light of recent news reports surrounding Chuck Knoblauch, as well as direct communication with the former Twins second baseman, the Minnesota Twins have decided to cancel the team’s 2014 Hall of Fame induction ceremony scheduled for August 23 at Target Field,” the team said in a statement.
Knoblauch, 46, played for the Twins from 1991 to 1997, then was with the New York Yankees (1998-2001) and Kansas City Royals (2002).
