Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston’s legal run-ins have been well-documented over the past couple of years, and now, one more can be added to the list.
According to a police report obtained by Rachel Axon of USA Today, the Seminoles signal-caller and teammate Chris Casher were stopped by FSU police at gunpoint and handcuffed for carrying a pellet gun on campus during an incident in November 2012.
The two players were briefly detained after someone reported seeing two men carrying a “long barreled handgun” on a campus bike trail. Winston and Casher told police they were using the pellet gun to shoot at squirrels along the trail. The gun and pellets were confiscated, but neither player was charged or arrested.
The incident occurred roughly five hours before Winston was involved in a BB gun “battle” at his apartment complex that resulted in approximately $4,200 worth of damage. Apartment manager Dave Sudekum initially stated he wanted to evict Winston and three other Seminoles who were involved, Axon reports, but he ended up not pressing charges after senior associate athletics director Monk Bonasorte arranged for the players to split the cost of the damages.
The 2013 Heisman Trophy winner was investigated for a rape allegation in December of 2012, but he was not charged. He was also accused of shoplifting soda from a Tallahassee Burger King in July 2012, but was not charged, and in April, Winston was cited for shoplifting crab legs at a local grocery store.
