FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi reported Thursday, citing sources, that the Rays are discussing a trade that would send ace David Price and infielder Ben Zobrist to the Seattle Mariners. Morosi did clarify, however, that no deal is imminent.

Price and Zobrist have spent their entire major league careers with the Rays, and both have put up solid-but-not-spectacular numbers this season.

Price leads Tampa Bay’s middling pitching staff in wins (nine), ERA (3.23) and strikeouts (164, tops in the majors), while Zobrist has posted a .266/.352./401 line with a 2.2 WAR in 83 games. Zobrist also possesses the versatility to play multiple positions around the diamond, as he’s seen time at second base, shortstop, right field and left field this season.

The Mariners are flush with potential trade pieces. Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker, catcher Mike Zunino and infielders Brad Miller and Nick Franklin mentioned as likely targets for a Rays team that enters the second half of the season in a virtual tie forlast place in the American League East.
