The Buffalo Sabres have locked up a talented young forward by agreeing to a five-year contract with Tyler Ennis.
Kevin Weekes of NHL Network reports the deal is worth a total of $23 million, giving the 24-year-old center the second-highest salary cap hit on the team among forwards.

Ennis’ two-year bridge contract worth $2.8 million annually ended after the 2013-14 campaign, so it’s no surprise that the rebuilding Sabres have committed to him long term.
He tallied 43 points (21 goals, 22 assists) in 80 games last season, the second-highest single-season scoring total of his five-year NHL career. Ennis has posted eight points (three goals, five assists) in 13 playoff games.
The Sabres have a solid group of centers to build around moving forward, including Ennis, Cody Hodgson, Zemgus Girgensons and Sam Reinhart.
