Most men will admit that they don’t want to get a prostate exam. Myrtle Beach Pelicans general manager Andy Milovich, on the other hand, not only got an exam, but he did so while singing baseball’s most recognizable song.
Myrtle Beach, the Texas Rangers’ Single-A affiliate, held a Prostate Cancer Awareness Night at TicketReturn.com Field on Thursday night. The team handed out 1,000 foam fingers with blue ribbons — the awareness symbol for prostate cancer — to men ages 18 and older.
Milovich also promised that if a Facebook page of a local boy diagnosed with brain cancer received 10,000 likes, he would get a prostate exam while singing “Take Me Out To the Ballgame” during the seventh inning. Milovich delivered on his promise after the Facebook page reached the magic number of likes Monday.
“It wasn’t bad,” Milovich said, via ESPN. “The doc was done maybe 15 seconds into the song. I think my next exam is going to be a significant letdown.”
While this event might just be considered just another crazy minor league stunt, Milovich seems to have done it for a good cause.
“The amount of people, who are either prostate-cancer survivors or people who have lost family members to prostate cancer, who have said what tonight meant to them has been overwhelming,” Milovich said.
