Lionel Messi, Tim Cahill Goals Among Top 10 At 2014 World Cup (Videos)

The 2014 FIFA World Cup will go down as one of the most memorable tournaments of all time, in part because of the frequency of goals scored.

There were 171 goals in the World Cup — the most ever.

Even “super subs” contributed in a big way, scoring 32 goals — also the most ever.

Finally, 13.3 percent of all shots went into the net. This was the highest percentage since they started keeping track of such stats in 1966.

With all of these goals, there were undoubtedly more than a handful of scores that will play in our heads for a long time.

Not all of these wonderful goals were scored by superstars like Lionel Messi or James Rodriguez either. Some of them came from relative unknowns like Tim Cahill of Australia and Jermaine Jones of the United States.

No matter who they came from, there’s no doubt that goalkeepers will be having nightmares about this year’s tournament until the 2018 World Cup.
