UCLA Campus, Pauley Pavilion Flooded After Water Pipe Bursts (Photos)

UCLA’s famed Pauley Pavilion underwent a $132 million renovation less that two years ago. On Tuesday, it looked like this:

A water pipe burst Tuesday afternoon below Sunset Boulevard near the school’s Los Angeles campus, creating a 30-foot-tall geyser and flooding several university building and facilities with more than eight million gallons of water.

One of the facilities hit worst was Pauley, which has housed Bruins basketball since the days of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

“It’s painful. It’s painful,” UCLA chancellor Gene Block said, via The Associated Press. “We just refurbished Pauley just a few years ago. And it’s a beautiful structure. It’s of course, a symbolic structure for this entire campus.”

Luckily, no injuries were reported as a result of the break, and crews quickly began the process of drying out the campus. As of Wednesday morning, all standing water had been removed from Nell and John Wooden Court.
