Wily Mo Peña might not be in Major League Baseball anymore, but that hasn’t stopped him from crushing home runs.
Peña hit 84 homers — including 16 with the Boston Red Sox — during an eight-year career in the big leagues. After his playing days in the United States concluded in 2011, Peña took his talents to Japan, where he now plays for the Orix Buffaloes.
Earlier this year, the slugger crushed a moon shot that hit the roof of the Kyocera Dome. Peña might have topped that homer with the blast he hit in Saturday’s Pacific League All-Star Game.
The home run was an absolute no-doubter to left field on the first pitch of the at-bat. As soon as he hit it, Peña just stood inside the batter’s box to admire the majestic shot. Even pitcher Shintaro Fujinami, who surrendered the homer, could not keep himself from smiling.
Who knows, maybe we’ll see Peña join Jose Canseco on a home run hitting tour next summer.
