Yankees Pitcher Shane Greene Makes Three Ugly Errors In Loss (Video)

Shane Greene did his best Chuck Knoblauch impression on Monday night, and that was bad news for the New York Yankees.

Greene ended up making three errors — two of them wild throws — as the Yankees made five errors in a 4-2 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Greene’s struggles began and were at their worst in the second inning. That’s where he fumbled a throw while covering first on what appeared to be a routine ground ball. Two batters later, he made arguably his most embarrassing error of the night. He cleanly fielded a slow dribbler back to the mound, which was a good thing. He turned that into a very, very bad thing when he ran the ball over to first base and tried to underhand it to the first baseman. The only problem was that Greene’s underhand toss ended up going over the head of New York first baseman Kelly Johnson.

Miraculously, Greene got out of the inning unscathed. He would later add a third error for good measure when he uncorked a wild throw to first base while fielding a dribbler in front of home plate. Once again, however, he was able to escape without any further damage.

It didn’t help Greene’s pitch count, though. He finished the fourth inning with more than 70 pitches, and he threw 113 pitches in just 5 2/3 innings of work. He was charged with all four runs — somehow all of them earned — and took the loss for the Bronx Bombers.
