Former Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller said after being traded to the Baltimore Orioles that he enjoyed his time in Boston. The left-hander doesn’t hate his new home, either.
Miller, who was dealt to the O’s hours before the Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline, told CSNBaltimore.com this week that his experience in Baltimore has been very positive thus far.
“It’s been a lot of fun to be a part of,” Miller said. “I think the excitement that I had coming over here, knowing this was a team that was in contention and expecting big things, I’ve been blown out of the water. It’s just been a blast to be a part of.”
Miller went from worst to first in being traded from Boston to Baltimore. That’s enough to energize any player, though Miller hardly seemed to need any extra motivation while solidifying himself as one of baseball’s top late-inning relievers with the Red Sox earlier this season.
Miller has continued his success with the Orioles, allowing just one earned run in 7 1/3 innings over eight appearances since being traded for left-handed pitching prospect Eduardo Rodriguez on July 31.
“Overall, it’s been great,” Miller said. “Everybody’s been so welcoming. Everybody’s gone out of their way to make my transition easier. It’s a good team that has one goal in mind, and their goal is to help me make the transition easier so that I can help them win games.”
Miller thrived in 2013 before a foot injury suffered in July derailed his breakout campaign. The 29-year-old southpaw wasn’t able to pitch down the stretch or in the playoffs during the Red Sox’s World Series run, but he still contributed to Boston’s incredible chemistry and could do the same in Baltimore while also producing on the mound.
“There’s a ton of differences. Things in general match up. The winning teams I’ve been on have a nice, loose clubhouse that expects to win,” Miller told CSNBaltimore.com.
“Everybody has gone out of their way to make me comfortable and I really feel like I fit out there with the guys in the pen. Those are the people I spend the most time with.”
Miller is slated to become a free agent after this season, which is why the Red Sox opted to trade him. Miller left the door open for a potential reunion with Boston, but his new home is leaving a good impression, too.
