CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College football coach Steve Addazio completed the “Ice Bucket Challenge” on Thursday, aimed at raising awareness and funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Addazio turned to those on hand for BC’s annual media day after practice had ended, explaining his reasoning for the gesture and challenging the next set of people tasked with pouring ice water on their heads for a good cause.

“Let’s fight this terrible disease,” Addazio said. “In memory of Dick Kelley, in honor of Pete Frates, I challenge ESPN’s Steve Levy to the bucket challenge, and all of the media here.”
Frates is a former Boston College baseball player who was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2012, at 27 years old. He and his family have become advocates to find a cure for the disease, with the help from many at BC.
“We really want to do our part to help this ALS fight,” Addazio said. “It’s a terrible disease, and it’s just really important that our players and everyone in our program, at our university, do our part in trying to help find a cure for ALS.”
