It appears Brian Scalabrine is coming back to broadcast Boston Celtics games, and he made the announcement in the absolute best way possible.
Parodying LeBron James’ “I’m Coming Home” essay announcing his return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Scalabrine wrote Monday that he will once again join CSNNE broadcasts as a color announcer. The essay begins by loosely following James’ version, but veers off in a series of hilarious tangents.
“Remember when I spurned the Celtics and signed with the Chicago Bulls in 2010?” Scalabrine wrote. “Actually, I begged (Danny) Ainge to keep me and he wished me the best of luck.”
Scalabrine called a handful of Celtics games during the 2012-13 season before leaving to join Mark Jackson’s coaching staff on the Golden State Warriors last season. He was one of several assistants to experience differences with Jackson, and was eventually assigned to coach in the D-League.
The entire essay is worth a read, as it shows Scalabrine still possesses his biting, self-aware sense of humor.
“I’m doing this essay because I want an opportunity to explain myself uninterrupted — and gather some great press based on another recent NBA signing in almost the exact same way,” Scalabrine wrote. “I don’t want anyone thinking: ‘He and Mark Jackson didn’t get along. … The Bulls and Warriors couldn’t put the right team together. … Does anyone really care what Brian Scalabrine is doing right now?’ None of these things were true.”
What is true is that Scal is back, which is probably the best news Celtics fans have heard all summer.
