The Boston Bruins announced Wednesday a long-term extension of their affiliation agreement with the AHL’s Providence Bruins, as well as a couple of front office decisions.
Among those is the hiring of former NHL player Jay Pandolfo as player development coach. The 39-year-old from Winchester, Mass., played college hockey at Boston University and then embarked on a lengthy NHL career in which he spent 13 seasons with the New Jersey Devils, including Stanley Cup titles in 1999-2000 and 2002-03. He ended his career with the Bruins in 2012-13.
The Bruins also named Don Sweeney as general manager of the Providence Bruins. His previous role was assistant general manager of the NHL club.
“On behalf of the Bruins organization we are happy to have our relationship with the Providence Bruins extended,” Bruins President Cam Neely said in a statement.
“Having our AHL affiliate so close is a great asset to not only our hockey team, but to our fans, as they can watch our prospects develop. I’d like to thank H. Larue Renfroe, Jeff Fear and Matt Poore and the rest of the Providence Bruins organization for their continued commitment to Bruins Hockey. I would also like to congratulate Don Sweeney on being named General Manager of the Providence Bruins.”
The Providence Bruins have been Boston’s AHL affiliate since 1992.
