The Chicago Cubs’ future looks very bright — maybe as bright as the sun?
Highly touted Cubs prospect Jorge Soler made his anticipated debut Wednesday night, and the 22-year-old Cuban did not disappoint. Soler came to the plate in the second inning and showed a glimpse of what he can do as he generated a little bit of “Soler power.”
Soler took a fastball from Cincinnati Reds starter Mat Latos and crushed it over the center field fence for a home run in his first career at-bat.

Soler ended the game — a Cubs loss — with a pair of hits. He also joined fellow Chicago prospect Javier Baez in homering in his first major league game.
The Cuban prospect was armed with a little bit of helpful advice. Before Soler left to join the big club, Cubs minor league coach and former major league slugger Manny Ramirez told the youngster to just play his game.
“(Ramirez said), ‘Everything you’ve been doing here in Triple-A, do it over there. Don’t change anything,'” Soler said, according to MLB.com. “He knows how hard it is the first day and said, ‘Relax, and everything will be all right.'”
So far, so good.
