There was a scary moment in Thursday night’s Pittsburgh Pirates-Miami Marlins game.

Marlins relief pitcher Dan Jennings was struck in the side of a head by a line drive off the bat of Jordy Mercer in the seventh inning and left the game.

Jennings immediately fell to the ground before struggling to rise to his feet as he stumbled to his knees, looking dazed, with catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia racing out to the mound to help him.

The stadium fell silent as players from both sides looked on with concern while the training staff checked out Jennings. The pitcher rose to his feet to get in the cart, and he managed a wave to the PNC Park crowd as he was being carted off.

The Marlins have yet to release an update on Jennings.

UPDATE (11:35 p.m.): Jennings has been diagnosed with a concussion, and his CT scan came back negative, the team announced. He will stay in the hospital overnight.
