Dave Dombrowski Texts Billy Beane: ‘You Have 1 Minute To Acquire Chris Sale’

The Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers’ probable playoff showdown is already off to an entertaining start.

The A’s bolstered their already-strong rotation by acquiring Jon Lester — in addition to outfielder Jonny Gomes — from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Yoenis Cespedes early on trade deadline day. For a few hours, Billy Beane had assembled the most daunting rotation in baseball, but the Detroit Tigers responded just minutes before the 4 p.m. EST non-waiver trade deadline passed.

Detroit landed left-hander David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-team trade, which means the Tigers now boast the last three American League Cy Young Award winners (Price, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer) on their roster. General manager Dave Dombrowski wasn’t done there, though, as he followed up his blockbuster with a solid zinger he texted to his AL foe.

It looks like this AL arms race is going to be fun on and off the field.
