David RossBoston Red Sox catcher David Ross returns to the lineup Wednesday night for the third game of a four-game set with the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park.

Ross will play for the first time since Aug. 1 after recovering from a foot injury, but third baseman Will Middlebrooks will sit with an injury of his own. Middlebrooks left Tuesday night’s game with a hamstring pull, and while he says it’s not serious, he’ll have at least one night off. Brock Holt will move to third base to fill in for Middlebrooks.

Mike Napoli also will have the night off, and Kelly Johnson will be back in the lineup at first base.

Clay Buchholz will start on the mound for the Red Sox, and the Angels will send Garrett Richards to the hill. Richards carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Red Sox on Aug. 9 before allowing three runs in the seventh. Buchholz went eight innings and allowed just three runs in a game that ultimately lasted 19 innings.
