Georgia Head Football Coach Mark Richt Cut Ties To Recruit Over Tweets

Prospective employees in the job market aren’t the only ones who should be wary of what they post on social media.

College football players need to be smart, too, apparently.

Georgia head football coach Mark Richt says he cut a recruit after he wasn’t fond of the unidentified player’s posts on Twitter.

Richt told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that after the coaching staff reprimanded the player once, he changed his Twitter handle and continued to misbehave on the social media site. That ended up being the last straw, and Richt rescinded his scholarship offer.

Richt did not say what exactly the player posted, but cutting ties to a player because of social media misbehavior isn’t a novel concept. Penn State offensive line coach Herb Hand recently did it for the same reason.

It’s an important lesson for players who work so hard to get a scholarship. All of the blood, sweat and tears could be for naught because of an ill-advised post.
