It didn’t take long for James Rodriguez to score his first goal for Real Madrid.

Rodriguez scored in the 80th minute of Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the 2014 Spanish Super Cup on Tuesday. Rodriguez only entered the game at halftime, replacing the incomparable Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rodriguez gave Real Madrid the advantage when he collected a loose ball in the Atletico Madrid penalty area and shot past goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya.

But Real Madrid’s lead was short-lived, as Atletico Madrid’s Raul Garcia scored the game-tying goal in the 88th minute. The teams will play the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Friday at Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Rodriguez joined Real Madrid from French club Monaco after he emerged as the breakout star of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Rodriguez was playing his second competitive game for Real Madrid when he scored the first goal of his Spanish soccer career.

Rodriguez’s first Real Madrid goal wasn’t as good as the one he scored for Colombia against Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup. Nevertheless, it was an important milestone in Rodriguez’s career.
