Jerry JonesPossibly one of the biggest highlights from the 2014 NFL draft happened when the Dallas Cowboys were on the clock.

The Twitterverse blew up as people across the country wondered if Jerry Jones would draft Johnny Manziel at No. 16 overall and simultaneously start a firestorm in the league.

Well it turns out the Cowboys would have drafted Manziel, but Jones’ son got in the way. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones overruled his father from drafting Johnny Football, according to Jim Dent’s new book, “Manziel Mania.”

Jones confirmed the report Tuesday on a Dallas radio station.

“Figuratively speaking, it got close to that,” Jones said, according to NFL.com. “It certainly was a big debate going on, if no place else other than my mind.

“If anybody could talk me out of it, Stephen could. Let’s leave it at that.”

The way Manziel has been playing (and acting) this preseason, Jones must be really glad he listened to his son.
