Sunday will be a day of firsts for Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly.
Not only will the 26-year-old, who came over to the Red Sox with Allen Craig from St. Louis at the trade deadline, make his first career start at Fenway Park, but it’ll also mark the first time this season he’ll toe the rubber against an American League opponent.
It might be a challenge for Kelly to transition to pitching in the AL after pitching in the National League for so long, but manager John Farrell is confident in his pitcher’s ability to adjust, citing his numbers in interleague play as proof.
While with the Cards, Kelly was 1-0 with a 2.27 ERA in eight games in interleague play.
