Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s recent battle with mouth cancer has opened more eyes about the use of tobacco in Major League Baseball.
Red Sox manager John Farrell spoke about this issue before Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park.
“Hopefully…through Curt’s journey and the unfortunate passing of Tony Gwynn — these are two All-Star, Hall of Fame caliber players — that should bring added awareness to the players in the game today that they’ve suffered because of the use of smokeless tobacco,” Farrell said.
