Johnny Manziel hasn’t exactly lit it up in his first taste of NFL action.

The rookie quarterback has struggled for the Cleveland Browns this preseason, spoiling his chance to snatch the starting job from the also unimpressive Brian Hoyer.

Manziel again turned in a less than stellar performance against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, completing 6 of 17 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ preseason finale, but he did display some of the creativity that made him a star at Texas A&M.

Feeling the pocket collapse midway through the second quarter, Manziel took off toward the line of scrimmage, changed his mind, scrambled to his right and fired a completion to wideout Nate Burleson for a 27-yard gain.

The Browns went on to win 33-13 for their first victory of the preseason.

Manziel’s alma mater did just fine, too, in its first game of the post-Johnny Football era. New quarterback Kenny Hill completed 44 of 60 passes for a school-record 511 yards and three touchdowns in A&M’s 52-28 blowout of ninth-ranked South Carolina.
