Mixed martials arts fans will have to wait until next year for one of 2014’s most anticipated UFC events.
Just as the rivalry and trash talk between Jon “Bones” Jones and Daniel Cormier was escalating prior to their UFC 178 matchup on Sept. 27, Jones suffered a leg injury Tuesday, which sources told Fox Sports 1 was a torn meniscus.
Though the light heavyweight champion’s injury reportedly will not require surgery, the fight will have to be postponed. As of Tuesday, Jones and Cormier will face off on Jan. 3, which is tentatively scheduled to be UFC 182.
UFC 178 will now feature a bout between flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso as the main event. Johnson was pulled from UFC 177 as a result.
