Jonny Gomes isn’t exactly renowned for his defense. If anything, glovework probably is the weakest aspect of the former Boston Red Sox outfielder’s game.

Gomes still finds a way to come through with the occasional web gem, though.

During the first inning of Sunday’s matchup with the Atlanta Braves, Gomes, who was traded to the Oakland A’s along with Jon Lester last month, tracked down a foul ball off the bat of Jason Heyward and hauled it in, smashing into the Turner Field wall in the process.

It was the lone bright spot of the night for Gomes, who went 0-for-3 at the plate as the A’s lost 4-3 — their fifth straight defeat and seventh in their last eight games. All four Atlanta runs were charged to Lester (three of them earned), who suffered his first loss in four starts with Oakland.
