The New England Patriots are in Richmond, Va., this week for joint practices with the Washington Redskins, and it got a little toasty on the practice field Tuesday as temperatures reached the low 90s.

Luckily, Julian Edelman found a pretty awesome way of cooling off.

Unless you deleted your Facebook several weeks ago, you’ve probably heard by now of the “ice bucket challenge,” a fundraising effort that involves dumping a bucket of ice water over your head to raise awareness and money for ALS research in honor of Pete Frates, a former standout on the Boston College baseball team who suffers from the disease.

Several Boston Bruins players have already gotten in on the act, and on Tuesday, Edelman got involved in a big way.

The challenge already is spreading like wildfire, but Edelman’s nomination of Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola should boost it into the stratosphere.

Who knows, maybe they can even get head coach Bill Belichick involved.
