The bright jerseys, however, are part of the Detroit Lions’ green initiative to promote recycling. The jerseys are made from 21 recycled plastic bottles, and each Lions quarterback will wear one during practice Wednesday, ESPN.com’s Michael Rothstein reports.
The Lions teamed up with Repreve, a recycled fiber brand, and they hope to be one of the greenest teams in the NFL this year.
Not only are the Lions wearing environmentally-friendly jerseys during practice, they’re also giving away towels made from the same fiber to the first 8,000 fans at their Wednesday practice, and they set a goal to recycle every piece of trash throughout the season.
