Minor League Manager Loses Shoes, Throws Helmet Into Crowd During Tirade (Video)

Life in the minor leagues isn’t easy, especially as the season starts to wind down and the games mean less for teams out of contention.

The Winston-Salem Dash are one of those teams just playing out the string, and that might have been a reason Dash manager Tommy Thompson recently lost his mind.

The skipper of the Chicago White Sox’s Single-A affiliate had a huge meltdown on Monday night. The fiery manager was ejected, and he certainly got his money’s worth. Thompson, a career minor leaguer, went nuts. He removed his shoes and placed them on home plate, before rifling his helmet into the stands.

Coincidentally, that was the Dash’s final home game of the season, so maybe the tirade was just Thompson’s way of rewarding fans for enduring a losing season — by putting on a show and giving away a souvenir.

This isn’t the first time Thompson’s anger has gotten the best of him. As manager of the Kannapolis Intimidators last season, Thompson had another epic meltdown. That tirade featured Thompson mocking the umpires by mimicking a blind beggar.
