The world learned Wednesday that Little League sensation Mo’ne Davis is, in fact, human.
The 13-year-old pitcher for Philadelphia’s Taney Dragons was pulled in the third inning after giving up three runs to Las Vegas’ Mountain Ridge in the Little League World Series. Her last LLWS start was a complete game shutout.
The undefeated Las Vegas was coming off of a 13-2 rout of Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West, so nobody expected Davis’ latest task to be easy.
Still, Yahoo! Sports’ Mark Townsend noted that Davis showed confidence against a tough team. She gave up the first run in the first inning on an RBI triple, but came back to strike out the side. The second inning saw Davis giving up a two-run homer. After a strikeout in the third inning, Davis was pulled. She gave up three runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings of work.
Philadelphia kept it close for most of the game, but were struck for five runs in the top of the sixth inning. They lost 8-1, but will still have a chance to make it to the U.S. championship game if they can beat Chicago on Thursday.
Regardless of the loss, the Taney Dragons have something to be proud about from Wednesday’s game.
