The Oakland A’s have plenty of pitching. On Sunday, they added a much-needed bat to their struggling offense.
The A’s acquired first baseman and designated hitter Adam Dunn from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league pitcher Nolan Sanburn. The A’s also received cash considerations in the trade.
Oakland made a controversial splash at the MLB trade deadline last month by dealing power-hitting outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to the Boston Red Sox for left-handed ace Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes.
In Dunn, who has 20 home runs this season and 460 in his career, the A’s get a player who could fill the power void left by Cespedes. The 34-year-old slugger also will be a valued addition to Oakland’s postseason roster, as he was acquired before the 11 p.m. deadline for postseason elibility.
The A’s lead MLB in runs scored but rank just 20th since they dealt Cespedes at the MLB trade deadline. They currently sit four games behind the Los Angeles Angels in second place in the American League West.
