The team has been wearing “midnight green” since 1996, but Eagles president Don Smolenski told Philadelphia’s 94WIP on Wednesday that the team is considering adding an alternate jersey in its original Kelly green.

“We have talked about it, and there are some rules with the NFL that provides some restrictions that we’re trying to work through, but that’s going to take some time,” Smolenski told the radio station. “It’s there, and it’s something that we do talk about, but until some things change at the NFL level, it’s going to provide restrictions for us. It is being talked about it, yes.”

The Internet originally rejoiced over these comments, as most assumed Smolenski was referring to a permanent switch. NJ.com later reported that “the Eagles have clarified that they are considering adding a Kelly green jersey as an alternate jersey, not as a permanent switch from midnight green.”

Still, it is a very lengthy process to switch uniforms — the NFL takes things such as how they’ll look on camera and in stores into consideration — so it might be a while before the Eagles wear Kelly green for even a week, let alone permanently.

The last time the Eagles wore Kelly green was for their 2010 season opener.
