The accolades continue to pile up for Boston Red Sox prospect Henry Owens.
The 22-year-old pitcher on Friday was named to the Eastern League’s year-end All-Star team for the work he did as a member of the Portland Sea Dogs.
Owens didn’t even spend the entire season in Double-A Portland as he was Triple-A Pawtucket on Aug. 1. With the Sea Dogs, though, the left-hander was dominant. Owens finished his stay in Maine with a 14-4 record with a 2.60 ERA and 126 strikeouts. He’s been in Pawtucket for almost a month, but he stil managed to lead the Eastern League in wins, strikeouts, complete games, shutouts and batting average against.
The big southpaw has been almost as good since being promoted to the PawSox. Owens has made four starts since being called up. He has a 1-1 record with a 3.51 ERA. He’s totaled 27 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings pitched and has limited opposing batters to a .226 batting average.
The Red Sox took Owens in the 2011 supplemental first round with the No. 36 pick in the draft.
