Boston Red Sox prospect Anthony Ranaudo was announced Tuesday as the Triple-A International League’s Most Valuable Pitcher.
Ranaudo, who won the same honor in the Double-A Eastern League last season, has been dominant in his first season at the highest level of the minor leagues. The 6-foot-7 right-hander leads the league in wins (14) and batting average against (.223), ranks second in ERA (2.61) and third in WHIP (1.20).
The No. 5 prospect in the Red Sox’s system as ranked by MLB.com, Ranaudo also has made two starts for the big club this season, winning both and allowing six runs on 12 hits over 12 innings.
The 24-year-old is the first member of the Red Sox organization to earn top pitching in the IL since Charlie Zink did so in 2008.
