Red Sox’s Jonathan Herrera To Miss Rest Of 2014 Season With Elbow Injury

Jonathan Herrera will not be among the Boston Red Sox’s September call-ups.

Herrera, who was demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket at the beginning of July, will miss the remainder of the 2014 season because of surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow.

Herrera, who was acquired from the Colorado Rockies over the offseason in exchange for pitchers Franklin Morales and Chris Martin, hit .233 with a .307 on-base percentage in 42 games with Boston before being shipped to Triple-A. The 29-year-old utilityman hit .309 in 13 games with the PawSox.

Herrera figured to rejoin Boston when rosters expand Sept. 1, but that obviously will no longer be the case.
