Reports: Patriots Re-Sign Tight End Justin Jones, Release Tyler Ott

Justin Jones, James DevelinThe New England Patriots added a much-needed healthy tight end on Sunday.

The Patriots re-signed rookie tight end Justin Jones, Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com reported Sunday, and released long snapper Tyler Ott, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported. Jones originally was signed by the Patriots on May 12 and was waived Aug. 10.

The Patriots have suffered a rash of injuries at tight end, which left Steve Maneri as the only healthy player at the position on the Patriots’ roster in Friday’s preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Tight end Rob Gronkowski (knee) has been limited in training camp, while D.J. Williams and Michael Hoomanawanui have missed practice because of undisclosed injuries.
