Tiger Woods had a miserable season marred by injury and inconsistent play. So on Monday, he parted ways with his swing coach.
Woods’ relationship with swing coach Sean Foley has come to an end, Woods announced on Monday morning. The announcement marks the end of a four-year relationship between teacher and pupil.
“I’d like to thank Sean for his help as my coach and for his friendship,” Woods said in a statement released on his website. “Sean is one of the outstanding coaches in golf today, and I know he will continue to be successful with the players working with him. With my next tournament not until my World Challenge event at Isleworth in Orlando, this is the right time to end our professional relationship.”
Woods experienced arguably the worst season of his career in 2014. His season came to a premature end as he recently announced he was done for the season because of a back injury. Woods played in just seven events and finished in the top 25 only once. He missed two cuts, one of those coming at the PGA Championship, and he barely made the British Open cut.
Woods has won eight tournaments since the start of the 2010 season, but he was unable to win a major during that time. The former world No. 1 hasn’t won a major since winning the 2008 U.S. Open.
Woods added that he’s currently without a coach and says there’s no timetable for hiring a potential replacement.
