Byron Buxton just can’t buy a break.
The Minnesota Twins prospect is considered one of baseball’s top young players, but he has been bitten hard by the injury bug this season.
Buxton already had missed a good chunk of time with a wrist injury before returning to action with the Fort Myers Miracle, the Twins’ Class-A Advanced affiliate. In his first game for Double-A New Britain on Wednesday night, Buxton suffered a much scarier injury.
The outfielder was left unconscious and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance after colliding with teammate Mike Kvasnicka while diving for a ball in the outfield.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan was at the game and left in the ambulance with Buxton. The GM later revealed Buxton had suffered a concussion from the collision.
“He’s alert,” Ryan said upon returning to the field, according to MILB.com. “He has a concussion, so we’ll have to take the normal procedures and protocol for concussion symptoms. He’ll certainly be watched.
“We’re grateful for just the concussion. … That was very scary.”
Buxton entered the season as the No. 1 prospect in baseball, according to Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus and MLB.com.
