Teams love it when their best players are confident, but sometimes that confidence and swagger can cause players to make some bold comments.
Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry proved that in a phone interview on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday in his response to Patrick’s question about who the better offensive player is between himself and LeBron James.
“Me,” Curry said. “Gotta be, right?”
While Curry is an extremely talented young guard and probably a top 10 player in the NBA in most people’s books, every offensive metric gives James a clear advantage over Curry.
James has more points per game (27.1 versus Curry’s 24.0), a better player efficiency rating (29.3-24.1) and a higher true shooting percentage (64.9 percent-61.0 percent) than Curry.
Curry did elaborate, though.
“I like to say I can distribute, get my teammates involved and be a playmaker as well.”
Curry can at least boast that he averaged more assists per game than James (8.5-6.3), but it’s pretty clear that James is the better all-around offensive player.
All of that said, the Warriors are probably thrilled. They want their best player believing he’s the best. It’ll only make their team better in the long run.
