Adrian PetersonAdrian Peterson can only watch the Minnesota Vikings from his couch right now as he waits for his Oct. 8 court date after allegedly abusing his 4-year-old child.

But while the running back can’t help his team on the field, he’s doing everything in his limited power to lend a hand off it.

Peterson texted Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer prior to the Vikings’ win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday to offer some inspirational words that helped motivate the team, according to the Pioneer Press.

Zimmer relayed Peterson’s words to his players during his pregame speech, and apparently they hit hard. Whatever Peterson said, the Vikings probably would like more of it, as they stomped the Falcons 41-28.

“The words that Adrian texted Coach Zimmer, (they were) very deep,” Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater said. “One thing that I took away from that message was play each down like it’s your last because you never know when it’s going to be your last opportunity. I think the guys got that message pretty well.”

Peterson has also been in contact with Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon, who burst onto the scene with 135 rushing yards on 18 carries Sunday. He made Vikings fans forget Peterson’s absence — at least temporarily —  thanks to a few rushing tips Peterson has been texting him recently.
