Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila put a lot of faith in the backstop netting at Comerica Park on Friday night.

When Mike Aviles of the Cleveland Indians hit a pop fly behind home plate, the catcher ran toward the ball and jumped into the netting to make an amazing catch before bouncing back onto the field feet-first.

Avila made a tough play look easy. In fact, it looks kind of fun bouncing off a backstop netting.

Avila essentially used the netting as a trampoline and had enough faith that he wouldn’t collapse into the fans when he jumped to get the ball. Fortunately for him, there was nobody sitting in the two seats he jumped toward, and nobody was hurt.

That’s what happens when one is familiar with his home-field surroundings.
