So the Arizona State football team has seen better nights than what it went through Thursday.

The No. 15 Sun Devils woke up in the morning with a great opportunity. ASU was set to welcome Pac-12 rival UCLA to Sun Devil Stadium for a prime time matchup against the No. 11 Bruins. When the Sun Devils went to bed, however, they did so nursing a 35-point blowout loss.

UCLA ran all over Arizona State on the way to 62-27 win, a statement victory for the Bruins. It was all part of an embarrassing night for Arizona State, which started with a little bit of graffiti. Stadium workers had to work hard to paint over the letters “UCLA” scratched into the Sun Devils’ midfield logo.

Things went from bad to much worse for Arizona State once the game actually started. Arizona State committed four turnovers and allowed 626 yards of total offense in the blowout loss, and that yardage total included an 80-yard touchdown catch from Eldridge Massington. On that play, two Sun Devils ended up tackling each other as Massington scampered for the big score.

Arizona State head coach Todd Graham summed it up best.

“”That was embarrassing. It was a frustrating night,” he told reporters. “The standard that we set here was not met tonight.”
