NCAA Football: Southern California at Boston CollegeYou could call it the Red Bandana Game.

Boston College honored fallen 9/11 hero and BC alum Welles Crowther by wearing red bandana-themed uniforms during their game against USC on Saturday, and they were able to upset the Trojans 37-31.

USC quarterback Cody Kessler completed 31 of 41 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns, but BC ran all over the Trojans’ defense. Jon Hilliman ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns, while Myles Willis and wide receiver Sherman Alston enjoyed 50-plus yard runs of their own. The Eagles accumulated 452 rushing yards, including 191 from signal-caller Tyler Murphy.

Southern California didn’t go down without a fight, though. They were ahead for much of the first half before BC scored 24 unanswered points. The Trojans then came within spitting distance of a last-minute victory after scoring with just over a minute to go. However, BC recovered USC’s onside kick, and the rest was history.

The win over No. 9 USC was the Eagles’ first victory over a top 10 team since they beat 10th-ranked West Virginia in 2004.
