Fenway Park was a home away from home for Derek Jeter on Friday.

The Fenway Faithful showered the New York Yankees captain with chants of “De-rek Je-ter! De-rek Je-ter!” several times throughout the Boston Red Sox’s 3-2 loss. Jeter didn’t play a single inning, but this weekend obviously is going to be a three-day celebration of the shortstop’s illustrious major league career.

Jeter could have called it quits after hitting a walk-off single in his final home game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. No one would have blamed him. Instead, Jeter vowed to play this weekend at Fenway out of respect for the Boston fans and the storied Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.

Fenway Park has long been enemy territory for Jeter. This weekend, it’s the stage for an emotional send-off. Friday’s Fenway roll call certainly set the tone.
