Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz is on the mend.
Buchholz underwent successful meniscus surgery on his right knee Tuesday, according to the Red Sox. The procedure was performed by Dr. Peter Asnis at Massachusetts General Hospital. Buchholz is expected to make a full recovery.
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington offered several injury updates Monday at Fenway Park. The GM revealed Buchholz would undergo the relatively routine procedure to repair an issue the right-hander dealt with off and on throughout the 2014 season. Cherington said the injury did not hinder Buchholz’s performance despite the 30-year-old’s up-and-down year.
Buchholz, who earned his second All-Star selection in 2013, went 8-11 with a 5.34 ERA in 28 starts this season.
