The Boston Red Sox are out of playoff contention, but that hasn’t stopped David Ortiz from hitting timely home runs.
Big Papi came through again Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles. Already with a home run under his belt in the game, Ortiz blasted a two-run shot to break a tie and give his team a 5-3 lead.
Ortiz’s four RBIs in the game also put him above the century mark, as he became the first Red Sox player to have eight seasons with at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs.
Elsewhere, Derek Jeter took a sip from the fountain of youth and hit what might have been his last career home run in the Bronx on Thursday night.
Other big homers of note were a go-ahead bomb from Lorenzo Cain off Chris Sale, a clutch jack by Russell Martin against the Milwaukee Brewers and a walk-off from Anthony Rizzo.
