Jarred Tinordi is a massive human being, and he made his presence felt in a big way Sunday night.

The Montreal Canadiens defenseman was given a game misconduct penalty for a huge hit on Washington Capitals forward Nate Schmidt in Sunday’s preseason game at Bell Centre. The hit, which came early in the third period, left Schmidt hurting on the ice at the Montreal blue line.

Schmidt had his head down as he tried to enter the Montreal zone, which is where Tinordi — standing at 6-foot-6 without skates — cleaned him out with what appeared to be a pretty clean hit. Judging by replays, it looks as if Tinordi caught Schmidt in the chest.

As you can see in the video, Tom Brown challenged Tinordi to a fight, and the 22-year-old obliged. Brown received an instigator penalty for his actions.

Capitals head coach Barry Trotz told reporters after the game that Schmidt passed all of the NHL’s concussion protocols, adding “he seems to be fine.”
